Support & Troubleshooting

Click an issue below to expand tips and explanations. Most problems can be improved with small setting adjustments.

Before you worry

Background removal isn't a one-click problem — especially with hair, fur, shadows, or low-contrast subjects. TomsBGRemover gives you tools to improve results, but some images will need light tuning.

  • The app runs fully offline
  • Your images are never uploaded
  • Most quality issues are solvable with the controls below

Fast help

Try these first — they solve most issues quickly.

  • Switch between AI Mode and Auto AI Mode
  • Lower Mask Sensitivity if parts disappear
  • Increase Feather slightly for harsh edges
  • Use Sticker Mode only when you want a white outline
Edges look jagged or rough

This usually means the cutout is too aggressive.

  • Reduce Mask Sensitivity
  • Increase Feather / Soft Edge
  • Enable Edge Cleanup
Hair or fur looks messy

Fine detail is hard for AI cutouts.

  • Use AI Mode for manual tuning
  • Lower mask sensitivity
  • Increase feather slightly
Holes appear inside objects

Internal areas mistaken for background.

  • Lower Mask Sensitivity
  • Disable Edge Cleanup temporarily
Background not fully removed

Some backgrounds are very close in color to the subject.

  • Increase Mask Sensitivity slightly
  • Enable Color Spill Suppression
  • Compare AI Mode vs Auto AI Mode
Sticker outline looks wrong

Sticker Mode uses a fixed ~6px outline for cutting machines. Adjustable thickness may be added in future versions.

App crashes or shows debug dialog
  • Restart the app and retry
  • Don't overwrite images open elsewhere
  • Try a different output folder
GPU acceleration not detected

GPU is optional and hardware-dependent. The app always falls back to CPU automatically. Driver updates may help.

Collecting logs for support

Logs help diagnose crashes, batch issues, and unexpected behavior.

  • Logs stored in app's local data folder
  • Include the most recent log file
  • Describe what you were doing
  • Windows version
  • CPU and GPU model
  • Which mode was active
  • Image type and resolution
